I have made som big changes in my rig in the last few weeks. I have sold my Blues Jr III and bought a Vox Night Train instead. The Blues Jr sounded great, but I always used it as a "head" and never as a combo with its stock speaker. So I thought a Vox Night Train would suit me better. I don't say that one is better than the other, they are just different amps. And I have never had a vox amp before, so I wanted to try one.
I wouldn't say the difference in sound is huge, they have the same tubes, but I love the way the NT breaks up. It defenitely has that Vox chime, and a lot more overdrive if you want to. Especially in "thick" mode. And it looks great of course.
I have also bought a new speaker for my isolation box, which is a Celestion Blue clone called WGS Black and Blue (Warehouse Guitar Speakers). It is really great. It has much more bottom and rounder tone than my Jensen C12N. So right now I haven't got a cab for my Night train, just my iso box. But yesterday I ordered two Kustom Defender 1x12 cabs, that I will swap the speakers for my WGS and Jensen. I am also planning to mod the cabs, and change the black tolex to tweed (Jensen) and cream coloured vinyl (WGS), leather handles etc. The good thing about these cabs is that they are rather small, and fit in my iso box.
Another huge change I have done, is that I have sold all my pedals! Since I bought my Weber attenuator, I haven't really used my pedals. I mostly play with a pretty clean sound with a little bit of break up, and my pedals could never compete with the real breakup of a pair of tubes. And I have very limited space in my music room, so I decided to sell them. I always add effects such as compressor and reverb in Logic anyway.
